Terry W. Williamson Back

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Terry W. Williamson for heroism while participating in aerial flight. Warrant Officer Williamson distinguished himself by heroic actions on 2 March 1968, while serving as the Pilot of an unarmed helicopter for Headquarters Battery, 25th Infantry Division Artillery flying in support of a heavily engaged infantry company near Saigon, Republic of Vietnam. When the companyís lead element came under intense enemy fire Warrant Officer Williamson quickly had his aircraft hovering over the conflict below, despite heavy anti-aircraft fire. He directed accurate artillery rounds into the enemy lines cutting off their withdrawal and inflicting heavy casualties. Exposed to heavy automatic weapons fire which shattered the helicopterís windshield and caused him to be wounded, Warrant Officer Williamson fearlessly maneuvered his aircraft and remained over the area until the mission was completed and the enemy defeated. Through his valorous actions and outstanding ability he contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. Warrant Officer Williamsonís personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
