Ellmer A. Nuss Back

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Elmer A. Nuss for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Navigator at Khe Sanh, Republic of Vietnam on 16 March 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Nuss was assigned a combat essential mission to delivery vitally needed cargo to Khe Sanh in support of Operation Lam Son 719. Although hampered by marginal weather and minimum navigation equipment, Lieutenant Nuss, using his airborne radar, successfully guided his crew through the mountainous terrain to the extremely short assault strip. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Nuss reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
