Desperate times call for creative measures. I hope this works. In fact, I hope it works so well we start to look at ALL area Supt's. If 1 person can easily do the job of 2 in Centreville/Mendon- then doesn't that make sense that Colon, Burr Oak, Nottawa, Constantine, White Pigeon could also take a good close look at some of their staff? MAYBE we need to look closely at all jobs and stop doing things the same ole' way...JUST because we always have.

The RUMOR RUNNER attempts to verify and chase down a variety of rumors in and around St. Joseph County.

Or better yet have ONE centralized superintendent for the entire county? Now would be the time to do it with many of the current superintendents reaching retirement age.

I'm not sure that Sturgis or TR would want that. It is a good idea, but the sizes of those two districts could cause poor performance, and/or early burn-out.

By combining Superintendent posts? THEY don't teach the kids, the in-the-classroom- teachers do. The more Superintendents you have, the more support staff, office staff, buildings to run etc. And what are the school principals for, aren't they supposed to handle all the adminstrative stuff for the schools? If there's all the clamor to cut down on government and ditch the bureaucrats, surely that applies to schools hierarchies too.

Whisper is that when the Superintendent at Colon retires they're looking at combining with another district too.

I don't know most of those Superintendents' have a pretty swollen head already. A mega school district? Be careful what you wish for. What we should be look into is cutting their benefit packages and wages like they do with the rest of the employees in the district. For example when a superintendent quites or gets fired there should be no bonus pay or severance package. I don't get one, do you?

Nope and I don't even have tenure either...but we can't keep having 16 different school administrations. Combing school superintendents is a step in the right direction.

I may be putting myself out here as a simpleton, but I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering...What does the superintentant DO anyway? I'm just wondering. What are his/her duties?
