The Lockport Township Board has expressed interest in rejoining what is now the Fabius-Park Fire Department.

Government is too big and too important to be left to the politicians.

I have followed this topic on Liberty 1st and always feel like I have walked into a conversation after the points have been explained clearly and every one is just shouting his/her side.

As I understood, it came down to this: Lockport did NOT want to be a part of the LFP Fire Dept. PERIOD. It's been VOTED on, don't BOTHER US ANYMORE. Well...maybe we do want to be on it after all, so let's put it on the ballot again and maybe we'll swing it...but don't make us pay for the houses.

It's settled, but not really. Ever. Oy vey.

Other than entertainment value, I have little involved in this matter since I live in the City. If I could ask a question, I would like to know if all of the same people are in place on the Township Boards. If they are, then yes. They are messing with you now.

Lockport elected a new supervisor and one new trustee during the last election. The clerk has always been against the new station/houses and the treasurer and remaining trustee have opened their eyes to the situation.

The problem has always been the houses. Lockport residents wanted the fire department to have a new building, but within reason. It has NEVER been about not wanting the best for the community but with the current economic mess of our country the citizens realized that the additional tax would be a burden to their wallets.

All parties involved need to find an objective 3rd (4th/5th) party to mediate a solution. Since all politics are local, I'm sure that their is some of the peoples' business that is being ignored/forgotten. More sane heads need to prevail.

As far as I could see blatant envy was the issue. It made no sense to spend a lot of dollars putting up a firehall meant to last and then scrimping on the building of accommodation for those personnel who need to be nearby. Sure put a trailer or mobile home in place, and see what a waste of money that will turn out to be. Alternatively, last time I drove down Broadway there were several homes for sale nearby - that could have been another alternative. Where does it say that the people entrusted with saving our lives and property have to be housed in slums or sub-standard accommodation? When push came to shove a very small percentage of the Lockport voters turned out and no surprise that they were the "anti's".

If you're going to have a small exclusive fire department instead of a regionalized one county wide, then at least don't gripe about the cost.

Silent, 59% of the voters came out. I don't consider that a small percentage. The vote totals were...470 to 322 on the building.
