The issue is accountability. The concern is Judy will not hold Mr. Bippus accountable. The concern is Judy will not stand up against self centered, self promoting, self benefiting behaviors present in this employee called city manager, AT THE EXPENCE OF MANY OTHERS, I MIGHT ADD. The concern is Judy will be yet another Commissioner supporting Mr. Bippus's agendas.

There are numerous topics on Liberty 1st expressing concerns over the Welton Development project, the drinking water issues, waste water pollution concerns. Poor employee morale. Using fear tactics to shut employees up. Plus many more.

BUT things have changed. Al Balog is Mayor! He is doing a great job holding City Hall accountable, even through tough opposition and many critics, most setting to the left and right of him on the city commission. Many time he was the only one willing to call Mr. Bippus out. Time and Time again OUR MAYOR has stuck out his neck to do THE RIGHT THING, the thing that had INTEGRITY, to bring change and accountability to city hall FOR the citizens of Three Rivers.
Now we have Wendy Shank who has experienced Mr. Bippus first hand, who has watched as Mr. Bippus and his boys brought their presentations to the commission. She has witnessed the deception in their presentations and also watched as Mayor Balog, Ken Baker and Three Rivers citizens exposed the house of cards. Wendy is another huge step in the right direction. I also believe Commissioner McNairy is seeing the light and recognizing the tactics of Mr. Bippus and his Boys so I believe she will begin to look at issues between the lines and behind closed doors. I hope she will actively hold Mr. Bippus accountable.

Not long ago the commission was run by the ( Member of the Brown Table ) Mr. Bippus, Tom Lowry, Daryl Griffith, Rowdy Keith and Ken Cochran. Today only Daryl remains the loyal subject of King Bippus.
George Ramsey would have been another great step forward, Hopefully a recount will get that job done.
So to be long winded lovinlife, that is the answer to your question!!

But of course and as always, this is only my opinion!! The fact that many share this opinion is only coincidental !! And for the record NO NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INOCENT

Ramsey's loss is his own fault. I didn't know either in the race...never talked to them or had any mail or interaction. I was leaning toward voting for Ramsey until I saw his table and sign right in the school yard. I hate it when candidates try to campaign at people as they enter the voting place. Neither I nor my wife voted in that race...yes they had to override the machine when I submitted the ballot.

It is unfortunate that every opportunity to speak with the candidates was not taken by every voter; I was out the day of the vote not to campaign AT the voters but as a reminder to vote and to answer any last minute questions anyone would have had. I consider my campaign a success even though I did not win the commission seat; Judy Gilchrist is a well known, much liked and very involved citizen of Three Rivers and I am honored that the people of Three Rivers were willing to give me the opportunity to serve them. As to being in the school yard, permission was granted and we were well within the legal limits according to the city and election officials.
As stated in the River Country Journal I am having the recount because I owe it to my supporters but also to verify that the electronic machines were functioning without error, I feel that a race that close needs to be verified by hand.

George was well within his right to still campaign on election day. The rule is you have to be 100 feet from the entrance to the polling location. George saught the council and permission of the appropiate people. The other candidates could have done the same. Just because George did and Judy didn't doesn't mean it's wrong.
He was not stalking people to the door. He simply had his name there for those who might otherwise have forgotten it.

Hey Joe, I am confused! You said that neither candidate approached you about the race, but then you said you saw George by the school when you went to vote. AND THEN YOU SAID YOU DIDNT VOTE IN THAT RACE! Are you stupid? Or just like to bitch? Its people like you, and that type of thinking as to why this town is so screwed up! As far as i am concerned, Judy did not put in 1/3 the effort George did and still won.(MAYBE!) Let me say this as nicely as i can, IF YOU DONT VOTE, YOU DONT EARN THE RIGHT TO BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great effort George, hope to see you try again!

P.S. I DID VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting! I do not have the background noted in this blog, but intuitively, perhaps just from talking with knowledgeable citizens, I question if the "old guard" (the one that put Bippus in the City Manager's position) did not rally their troops to vote against City progress? Simply, against open honesty in government.?

In the draft minutes(on the net) of the October 20, 2009 meeting of the City Commission, it states that Mayor Balog and Commissioner Baker needed to request the MDEQ Consent Order from City Manager Bippus, and then were provided with only a copy of the cover letter.
From meetings in other cities, the City Manager would have had the full response binder on the Mayor's and each Commissioner's desks.
The content of the MDEQ binder and cover letter?
Is some tail kicking needed in Three Rivers?

I agree Kbushwacker. Here we have a young man running for the Commission when most seat are going uncontested. George put in a great deal of time and effort. He went door to door and was at many city functions making himself available to the citizens of Three Rivers. If someone wanted to talk with him ,he certainly made himself available. He had a booth at the river fest and attended almost every Commission meeting. He personally contacted many city officials to become well informed as to city issues. I believe George put in a greater effort than anyone I've seen in a long long time. I even believe he did more than Mayor Balog who I feel ran a great campaign himself.
I don't know how anyone can criticize his effort or passion. I applauded his table and sign right in the school yard. It showed he was willing to go the extra mile to get elected. We need more passion for this city like George Ramsey demonstrated.

Great Job George, You have my vote !!

So the commission is going to hand pick the person for the seat? I agree they should pick George. Otherwise people are going to call shenanigans on the process.

Any one want to take bets on whether the commission will choose George for the seat? My bet is going on NO. Although with the new commission it is not the sure bet that it once was. Maybe it will work out after all.

I'll bet ya !! I bet YES. People need to start sending in letters to the editor requesting George to be on the Board. Then, you'll see what type of Board has been elected. See if they'll actually listen to their constituents...if not, everyone will know what to do at the next election !

Blaine ~ you start the first letter...you're very well spoken !
