That's over $200,000 per provider. Sounds pricey? I understand the hospital will also make use of the system. still sounds overpriced and untimely if financially risky and fiscally not prudent- could have delayed system until absolutely mandatory by goverment regulations/ or possibly have waited to possibly receive federal $ to supplement the costs( grants, etc)
The decision to purchase a new IT system was not a choice. Borgess is changing from the current system shared with Three Rivers and that happen toward the end of the year.

in response to 'stillwaters' note about TRH existing computer arrangement expiring this year, it has been my understanding that that this termination was initiated by TRH. this week, when in K'zoo, I read that Borgess has implemented an electronic medical record(EHR), and is looking for stimulus money to move the program quicker. they are also looking for stimulus funds smart IV pump that utilizes a bar code scanner. it is an intuitive(gut) reaction that TRH would be far ahead if they had remained with Borgess extensive capability. and, that the people of the TRH district would be more confident in seeking medical care at TRH. |

| Another notice. Saint Joseph Medical Center in South Bend/Mishawaka has announced executive salary cuts of 8 percent and pay freezes, not cuts, for all associates. They, and Elkhart Hospital last week must not know they can keep their pay and just ask voters for more money like TRH. |

Borgess is terminating its use of the MPAC system. They are going with a new product that was far more expensive than TRH could afford. It was not initiated by Three Rivers. I wish the hospital did not have to purchase a new information system but it was not a choice.

Regarding choice- there is also the choice of not joining a system that was too large for TRH. Besides, they ( the execs) have been "looking " at a system for over 2 years and still cannot get it right.
It took administration over 1 year to decide on the colors for the nursing uniforms- what a waste of meetings and time.
It cost over $30,000 in consultant fees to design the new logo for TRH ( for the brochures).
All this spells mismanagement and now the citizens are being asked to "bail out" an administration that obviously doesn't now know how to manage. Too many lies, threats, and deceptions- Look at the CEO of GM-gone, Bank of America - gone, just to name a few. The hospital would benefit from a new administration- who understands the basics of math to run TRH. |

With 87.5% of the votes in it is 36% for and 64% against the millage.
Government is too big and too important to be left to the politicians. |

Broke - I'm glad you were able to find the $$ associated with the "branding" - I am even thinking that is a little under estimated when you consider the fees paid to the marketing consulting...a person who's position was eliminated when they went through one of their many restructuring over 10 years ago. How did changing the colors and the name from Three Rivers Area Hospital to Three Rivers Health help patient care....hmmmmmm |

Your welcome unowhy-
I "know people" - TR citizens with this info- and it angers them to know of such waste. You're right- consulting fees would have cost more. I find it curious the Chambers " recognized " the facilites- patient rooms to be outdated at least 10 years- yet he did nothing about it.
It's like having a 1960's ranch, with a leaking roof and flooded basement and I go ahead and remodel my kitchen for $80,000 with stainless steel appliances- Ridiculous isn't it- That's what Chambers did.
Speaking of kitchens- how much was spent building a kitchen for patient families to use- in the back of the hospital that the families can't even use- but the nursing students place their books and coats in there.
Again- voted no and it's all about mismanaged funds. |
