lovinlife,

Three Rivers Health currently employs one full-time and 2 part-time Certified Nurse Midwives. The organization is currently in the process of recruiting an additional full-time Certified Nurse Midwife.

Interesting, the new computer system ( over 3 million dollars) for use in the physician offices? Surgical- 1 orthopod, 2 surgeons; Womens health- 2 ob's, ?midwife, Internal medicine- 2 internist , 1 PA, Pediatrics- 2 pediatricians-- at best a total 15 providers. That's over $200,000 per provider. Sounds pricey? I understand the hospital will also make use of the system. still sounds overpriced and untimely if financially risky and fiscally not prudent- could have delayed system until absolutely mandatory by goverment regulations/ or possibly have waited to possibly receive federal $ to supplement the costs( grants, etc)

Has anyone touched on how the past litigation(s) has affected the bottom line in payouts, and increased insurance costs?

I've only heard rumors of multiple lawsuits in the past several years. If the part about the lawsuits is true, then they're paying a much higher rate of insurance(s).

The decision to purchase a new IT system was not a choice. Borgess is changing from the current system shared with Three Rivers and that happen toward the end of the year.

Hospital millage sought to support continued services

On Tuesday of next week, residents in Three Rivers and in Fabius, Park, Lockport, and Constantine townships will go to the polls to vote on the request by the Three Rivers Health Authority Board for a two-mill, 10-year levy to support the hospital.

The millage would be used to fund past capital expenditure debt, and present and future capital expenditures at Three Rivers Health, including roof repair, hospital room refurbishments, and equipment replacements. With millage passage, TRH would be able to direct funds currently pegged for capital expenditures into cash accounts, providing more cash on hand and removing the hospital from technical default on its bond covenants.

In February, the authority board exercised its statutory prerogative and approved a 0.4-mill levy that will be applied towards operational expenses.

Hospital officials cite the downturn in Michigan's economy as having a significant negative impact on TRHs finances, reducing its ability to meet bond obligations. The number of patients with BCBS or commercial insurance has dropped, meaning less income for the hospital, while the number of patients with Medicaid, which reimburses hospitals at a low rate, has increased considerably, as has the number of patients with no insurance at all.

As a full-service hospital and health care provider, Three Rivers Health operates a full-time emergency room and urgent care service and also has a four-bed intensive care unit. The acute care wing of the hospital has can serve 48 in-patients. The TRH rehabilitation unit can provide in-house treatment to 12 patients, and was recently recognized as one of the 60 best rehab centers in the nation. Read More - Three Rivers Commercial Online

Some more on info on TRH.

I wonder if Matt Chambers has scratched his head and thought, "I wonder why folks with BCBS and other commercial insurance are not using my hospital?" If he has the intelligence that he should have to make a quarter of a million dollars a year, he should be able to figure it out.
