THREE RIVERS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The City of Three Rivers is under a boil water advisory.

Residents are advised to boil their water before drinking it.

The advisory went into affect after the city lost water pressure Monday, and is expected to remain in affect until Wednesday.

Nice to see the City wait 20+ hours to have this put on the TV (wwmt). I found about this at the grocery store this morning. Somebody dropped the ball here.

Actually I think it started Sunday night. Our water had rust in it when we tried to do laundry. It lasted for about an hour or so and then cleared up.

Dropped the ball??? They never had the ball to begin with to drop it.

As a side note the warning was posted on this site (the one with no credibility) as soon as it was made public (Thanks Brat65) but to this day it hasn't been mentioned on the City's official site at all.

Hey, we just had an election - an opportunity to clear out the trash and give some of the armchair critics a chance. Didn't happen.

That is the great thing about elections. There is always another one just around the corner.

The boil water notice for the City of Three Rivers is expected to remain in place through the upcoming weekend. That's the latest update from Jim Rozeboom, Director of Public Services, regarding the situation surrounding the city's water system following a drop in water pressure that prompted issuance of the boil water notice on Monday (December 22nd).

During an interview early Friday afternoon (December 26th), Rozeboom said, "We started chlorinating the water on Wednesday afternoon and well be taking a set of samples today. We've got them started and we'll be taking a set tomorrow which should come out later on Sunday and, so, Monday is when we're hoping to lift the boil water notice." Hope was expressed initially that the boil water notice would be lifted on Wednesday. Later, the expectation was shifted to Friday. Rozeboom said, "It's taking us a little longer than we hoped for."

According to Rozeboom, three out of the four samples taken on Tuesday were negative. He said that, "The way the test is running Ive done a lot of them in looking at them, it looks more like a sampling error, which is very easy to do. It's quite a sterile procedure you've got to go through to make sure that no coliform bacteria from the air or anywhere contaminate the sample because they'll show up as a positive then."

Until the boil water notice is lifted, city residents are advised NOT to drink the water without boiling it first. Water should be brought to a boil, boiled for one minute, and let cool before using or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The boil water notice was issued after pressure in the city's water supply dropped because of a frozen control line off the line on the city's elevated water tank.

I am hearing the boil notice has been lifted. Has anybody else heard that? Anyone know where it can be confirmed?

Thanks to WWMT, Bruce Snook and Liberty 1st, and finally The Commercial for info. The city took days to announce it. Nothing on City website for days, and no posts on here from WLKM in nearly a week and as usual channel 13 was off until Sunday. What should have taken a couple days for tests took an entire week. I know it was the holidays but thousands of people were inconvenienced while apparently enough care was not taken to submit uncontaminated test samples. Does the city have ANY responsibility to provide drinking water to residents and restaurants during a long term outage?

I refer you to my post of 12-24. Complaints on this site (as good as it is), aren't going to change a thing. If you want change, start now by recruiting some caring, honest citizens to stand for the commission and then recruiting some community minded people to work at City Hall. (Did you notice that all the GOOD workers there have been edged out over the past few years, very few of the good ones left now.)

Silent it is in the works. I am about a month and half behind but trust me it's in the works.

Speaking of water...just wondering, I remember a few years ago TR tacked on a "fuel surcharge" to the water bills because of the rising cost of "fuel/gasoline." Since the price of gasoline has dropped, is the surchage still on the water bill?
