Hi, folks. I thought people on this discussion board might be interested in a project my husband Rob and I, along with our board of directors, are currently fundraising for in Three Rivers. It's called the Imagining Space campaign and the organization we helped found and run, *culture is not optional, currently has an offer in for the Huss School property. Here's a web site we set up with more information about the vision and the organization:

http://www.cultureisnotoptional.com/space

Rob and I are currently living in Grand Rapids, working at Calvin College, but we plan to move back to Three Rivers in a year. We helped open World Fare downtown five and a half years ago and are very much looking forward to moving back and continuing to serve the local community with our passions.

We're interested in hearing people's stories and ideas about Huss, along with your questions about what we're up to, as we want the community to be invested in the project. Thanks for listening! :)

Thank you for the encouragement, Amazon! We would love it if church and service clubs would get involved. Our interns created an amazing tour through the upstairs with miniatures, perspective paintings on the windows, etc. that's really worth seeing to start imagining the possibilities. We're going to leave that up for a bit, so if anyone has a group that wants a tour, just let me know.

If anyone attends church or belongs to a community service club, what about "adopting" a room or project at Huss? This is a service mission in *our own community* and you can walk right up and SEE what your money, time, and work are doing!

!Hurray! to Rob and Kirstin for this bold undertaking and to the college students who have made this part of their education.

Great! I drove by and was very happy at what I saw, the parking lot nearly full in the late afternoon. My only regret was, I was not able to mke it. Next time I hope.

From our perspective, the Future Festival went so well. We tried not to have a lot of expectations beforehand, as it was our first event, but it certainly exceeded whatever we would have expected! :) We had about 350 people come through and brought in $1,500. We met several neighbors we hadn't met before, all of whom were very friendly and encouraging and many of whom had gone to Huss themselves. All of the logistics went smoothly, but I think it was also a good demonstration of the vibrant, multi-faceted, creative community events that can happen there. And it was so great to see the parking lot full once again!

If anyone here attended, please send me your feedback. I'd love to hear what you thought, suggestions for the future, etc.

That would be great, Buck! I'll keep that in mind for when the time is right.

If anyone is interested, Bruce Snook has posted a nice article with photos and audio about the film class that's working at Huss right now:

No problem KMV. I am happy to help.

Also if you ever need a volunteer to do classes or training on programming/development projects I would be interested in talking to you about donating some time and or experience.

Thanks, Buck! We're actually really excited to be hosting one of our first "official" projects there this weekend. A film class from Grand Rapids is going to be learning production techniques by making a short film at the school--that's 13 students who will now have Three Rivers on their radar. We're looking forward to getting local folks more involved there as well this spring and summer.

Thank you all so much for your encouragement! We're back in Michigan again after two weeks on the road (http://www.eatwellfoodtour.com), and we're looking forward to diving into Huss work again. We'll let you know when there are opportunities to pitch in. Does anyone know someone who might be willing to donate lawn maintenance?
